the wash up

As I watch the athletes exit the plane in an orderly manner, firstly to be greeted by somewhat of a Ginga Thatcher, then by an insidious Irishmen I wonder how they are restraining themselves. Firstly, from asking Miss Gillard on which carousel to collect their baggage, and secondly, from punching Allen Joyce in the face.

But the wash up for me is a glorious thing. Time to scathe. Time to critique. Time for Rio! I don’t know about you, but for me the most enjoyable thing about the Olympics has always been listening to Roy and HG’s subversive commentary. And alas, they don’t seem to exist anymore.

So my next favourite thing is all the hotch-potch and illegal, backyard Olympic branding Merchant’s manage to fashion in their weekend arts and craft class. There was a complete crack down by official “Brand Police” in London these games on the unsolicited use of the “London 2012 Olympics” intellectual property. Even using the phrase “London 2012” was seen as a breach of these draconian branding regulations.

One man magically got around this, and did it SO well.....

Stephen Holt’s shop front window in the English town of Surbiton featured a hotch-potch display flouting brand politics with an interpretation of the London 2012 Olympics. As so eloquently put by an anonymous post “Lodnon 2102 Oimplycs: Not a Typo, but an Economic Protest”.

So here is a taste of what we have fortunately got away with on the streets of Melbourne. What can I say, very crafty!
