inappropriate advertising – part 1

Has advertising ever given you chills down your spine? When it does, it’s effective. So I am in two minds as to whether or not this was inappropriate. Funeral homes are a business and they deserve to advertise. But when advertising so blatantly takes advantage of a sacred human experience, it’s questionable. There was not a soul sans mobile when this horse drawn hearse moved silently along Johnston Street. At first a double take - it seemed anachronistic, from another era, but secondly at the realisation this was a moving ad. The coffin was adorned with interior shots of the John Allison Monkhouse chapel. And when pedestrians realised they were being advertised to strangers struck up chatter amongst themselves at how low you could actually go. Well I tell you - by god this was effective. It gave me the hebbie jeebies. It was like a ghost sent to remind us of our mortality. And when such an event arises? We can trust John Allison Monkhouse.
